Why Johnny?

I've really liked the game Dance Dance Revolution ever since it hit the States. I never did play the arcade version since I was too self conscious. But, when the Playstation version finally came out in the US, I went and got myself a copy.

It's just so much fun. For a while I was using it as my primary form of excersize. After a while, I finally got the guts to play in an arcade, since the arcades had newer versions of the game with different music.

So after playing the game for a while, I got into cosplaying and what's a perfect way to show people that I like DDR then doing a costume from it!

How did I make Johnny?

It's actually a lucky break, I found this bright pink women's silk blouse at Good Will. I got that, cut off the buttons and rolled up the sleves. The blonde pompadour I got from an online wig store. The rest was basically clothes out of my closet, white shirt, jeans and boots from my Squall Leonhart costume.

Originally I wanted to carve the pompadour out of foam. I went to Bob's Foam Factory and got a block of yellow foam and a electric bread cutter. Let's just say that it was an utter disaster. Carving is a lot harder then it looks, so I gave up and got the wig.

This is my first time wearing a wig and boy does it itch like there's no tomorrow. I finally got used to it and I describe it as sort of a... Zen like state. You just sort of have to accept the fact that it's there and surprisingly it gets better.

Reactions

Well I wore this costume first to the San Diego Comic Con, which may not have been a good idea, since it's more of a comic crowd then anime. So there were only a few people that recognized me as Johnny from DDR. Of course one of them was from an anime booth worker.

A lot of people thought I was a blond Elvis or Johnny Bravo. The strangest reaction was someone thought I was a rapper named Y2Kai, whoever that is. Oh well. It was still a fun costume to wear.
