Face was an ok movie. Basically it's about how crappy Chinese culture and family can sometimes be. Particularly with issues such as love, tradition, and "mian4" or face. I could identify with some of the issues, such as the parental units wanting me to find a "nice Chinese girl." The performances were quite wonderful. Kim, played by Bai Ling (yay) was really good. She played a younger self dealing with her mother and family and about being a "good Chinese girl." And then later being the mother of Genie, played by Kristy Wu and dealing with her daughter having a African-American boyfriend (gasp!) and how the grandmother who had raised Genie had to deal with what she considers as the disgrace of both Kim and Genie. One of the reasons I think Bai Ling was so good was that she can cry, the climax (I think) when Kim was talking to Genie was very moving, at least I thought so. The above description probably didn't make any sense, but I'm still coming off the high of meeting Bai Ling so I don't care. :) After the movie, like I said before there was a pretty good Q&A section. The director's explaination of why there was so much male nudity was quite funny. Basically she didn't intend for it to get in there and having it digitally removed would have been very expensive. I think she said about 10k. Oh yah, one of the male asses was in the movie was Asian partner that was killed in the TNT series Witchblade. Of course me and Wing couldn't figure out who it was until way after the movie during dinner. When Bai Ling was answering questions, such as about how a Chinese actress makes it in America cinema, it was sort of cryptic, sort of inspirational. I didn't quite know how to take her answer, but everyone applauded afterwards. :) She's also *really* skinny, though it seemed to carry it off well. She was wearing this cool skirt with fishnet stockings. Also, I don't know when this started happening as a fashion statement, but she had the thing where the strap of her thong was above waist band of her skirt. I've also seen CoCo Lee do that in one of her promo photos. Not that I'm complaining if this becomes a real fashion trend. Anyway, just color me fanboy. :) Anyway, did I mention that I got her autograph? :) Actually when I was waiting while she was talking to other people, it was sort of funny in that when she was telling them a phone number, she first had to say it in Mandarin and then translate it into English. It's funny in that I do the opposite, if I have to give out a number I have to say it first in English to translate it into Mandarin. I was also able to ask her about her appear on the show "Angel" the spin-off to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She said she did it because it was fun, since she had to put on some of the monster makeup and that no one recognized her. Well I don't know about that since the commercials for the episode (if I remember correctly) was touting the fact that she was guest starring. Oh did I mention I got Bai Ling's autograph? :D
